Course Description

This workshop is designed for participants who have never worked with or have limited experience with a PLC or programming software. Participants will get hands-on experience working with the hardware and software on industrial quality training units. This workshop will give the non-electrician or mechanical trades employee a complete understanding of the way a PLC works and how they are used in an industrial environment.

Prerequisites

A familiarity with Microsoft Windows

Objectives

Persons completing this course will be able to:

  • Identify electrical control components including a variety of input and output hardware
  • Identify the different parts of a PLC and specific PLC modules
  • Identify situations that justify the use of a PLC in an industrial environment
  • Specify PLC hardware for specific applications
  • Demonstrate the ability to set up communication between PLC systems and local or networked computers
  • Demonstrate an understanding of electrical symbols and terminology
  • Demonstrate an ability to navigate through a complex ladder logic program
  • Demonstrate an understanding of common PLC software instructions
